Robert Schumaker

Mr. Schumaker has practiced commercial real estate and finance law in Florida for nearly thirty-eight years.  After graduating from law school, he joined the in-house legal team of one of the state’s largest New York Stock Exchange traded land development companies where he was responsible for the legal support for the company’s land purchase and development divisions.  While working as in-house counsel, Mr. Schumaker exclusively handled such matters as the sale of the Marco Island Marriot Beach Resort, Golf Club and Spa and the successful rezoning, land use approval and environmental permitting of the largest single multi-use development in Hillsborough County, Florida.

In 1984, Mr. Robert Schumaker joined the then largest law firm in Pinellas County where he successfully continued his practice with that group of lawyers for twenty-three years during which time it evolved into the tenth largest Florida law Firm. He has since practiced with two other state wide firms before joining Freeman, Goldis, & Cash, P.A. in 2015.

Mr. Schumaker has handled large, complex commercial real estate transactions including the purchase, sale, and financing of large residential and mixed use subdivisions, condominium projects, apartment complexes, office buildings and warehouses.  He represented a national grocery chain in the sale of a major regional distribution warehouse in Tampa; the purchaser of a portion of the largest hotel complexes on St. Petersburg Beach and the purchaser of the largest office building in downtown St.Petersburg to name a few of his more recent accomplishments.

Mr. Robert Schumaker is equally adept in representing local, regional and national lending institutions in the documentation of complex commercial real estate and other types of loans including SBA documented loans.  He also has represented lenders, during times of economic down turns, in the successful negotiation and documentation related to troubled loans and special assets including loan re-documentation and correction; workout and deed-in-lieu documentation and forbearance agreements.

In the past, Mr. Schumaker has been appointed by the Florida Legislature to serve on the drafting committee of Florida’s Vacation Plan and Timesharing Act.  He has served on the Board of the Suncoast Chapter of the Community Association Institute. Additionally, he has been on the Advisory Board of the St. Petersburg College, School of Business, Paralegal Studies Department for nearly twenty years.  He is a past-chairman of the St. Petersburg Bar Real-Estate Section. He currently sits on the Development Review Commission appointed by the Mayor and City Counsel to review new development in the City of St. Petersburg. For twelve years, he served a member on the cities Environmental Development Commission. Here, he as ultimately appointed chairman.

Mr. Schumaker is an AV rated Preeminent Attorney and has been named as one of Florida’s Super Lawyers by his peers.
